1 – The BWTS have to fulfil the IMO as well as regional claim to the quality of the Ballast Water discharged, whichever quality the Seawater (Ballast Water) may have when taking onboard any place World Wide.
2 – The BWTS have, for fulfilling the request from IMO, to consist of two individual systems. The one is the Filtration of the Seawater to mesh size of max. 50µ. Hereby larger parts as well as leaving animals from within the Ballast Water is separated, at the same time the Sediment deposition (mud) in the Ballast Tanks is minimized, otherwise it will cause inconvenience to the vessel as well as the ship and the owner. The second system is the one, which will prevent the Bacteria, Monocellular and other Microorganism to survive and reproduction.
3 – The BWTS must be tailor made for all type of vessels, which means that the ship owner only is paying for what he need and no more.
4 – The function of the BWTS has to be, that the Sea Water is treated before going to the Ballast Tanks. Further it has to be possible to treat the Sea Water (Ballast Water) whether it comes onboard by the natural flow (hydrostatic pressure) or is pumped onboard
The reason for treating the Sea Water, before going to the Ballast tanks, is that smaller organism and other small animals, which are destroyed by the BWTS, and later will develop bacteria, by which the life is resurrected in the Tanks.
For this reason it has to be possible, during the voyage to the port, to revision the Ballast Water to secure that the Ballast water is Neutral when pumped overboard
5 – When BWTS are based on an Active Substance, it is subsequently possible to measure the life in any of the Ballast Tanks.
Therefore, at any time, it is possible, to register the measuring result from all the Ballast Tank systems, and use this as documentation for any ports and Government Represent World Wide.
6 – The Activated substance which is mixed into the Ballast Water, has to react as fast as possible to minimize the possible damage to the coating in the Ballast Water Tank and Pipe System, further to have reacted before the Ballast Water is going to be pumped overboard in port of loading, to eliminate any damage to the Environmental (Water) in the Port.
7 – The BWTS has to be Environmental Neutral:
Safe for the Environmental of the Ocean and Ports
Safe for the Crew to work with
Minimal use of Dangerous Chemicals
Minimal energy consumption (limited discharge of CO2)
8 – The BWTS has to be Cost Efficient:
Minimal request for Energy
Economical raw material, which has to be available in any Ports World Wide
Easy and cheap to maintain
Easy and flexible to install
